Divergent Theme Essay

The book Divergent, is written by Veronica Roth. The genre of the book is adventure-fiction. The book takes place in a city somewhere in the future, society is split into five different factions. The book is written in a first person view the entire story. There are plenty of themes in Divergent, one is finding your identity. The book focuses on how people try fit in when they actually need to find their identity in what they believe in. Another theme is that the choices you make now affect you and everyone around you in the future. The final theme is guilt, this theme ties in with choices, the characters have to make difficult choices and some of those choices lead to something bad happening and those characters have to live with the guilt of that bad thing happening
The main character is a girl named Tris Prior, her real name is Beatrice. She came up with her nickname when she moved away from her family and wanted to start off new. She is sixteen years old, she has blonde hair and has a tattoo of three birds. Tris does not like to show any weakness, she is very courageous, sometimes to a point where it gets her in trouble. She is also very persistent and works hard to get what she wants. She is a special type of person in their society, these special people are called Divergent. I have read the second book in the series, it is called Insurgent, and I am currently reading the third book, Allegiant. I would recommend this book to seventh graders and above, the book has a lot of cliffhangers and makes you never want to put it down until you finish it. I would not consider this a book a classic because in the future, I do not think kids will be reading this in their reading class. I do think that kids will still read this book and enjoy
