Lennie for instance, has physical power. He may be intellectually slow, but his description in the novel makes us know that he is one strong guy. With lennie holding this one power makes him able to defend himself, which he did when him and his boss named Curley, got into a little fight and Lennie left his boss with a broken hand. The narrator of the novel has said “curley’s fist was swinging when Lennie reached for it and next minute curley was flopping like a fish.”(63) One of the characters named slin said “Looks to me that ever’ hand in his bone is bust.”(64) The thing is that curley had problems with men that were either bigger or stronger than him and judged that just because Lennie was big and not smart that he did not have the power to do anything when it comes to fighting. One of the powers that some wish to have is socio-economic powers. Curley’s father whom is the boss of everyone holds this power. The other men on the farm are working for him and getting paid by him. He is the hierarchy of the ranch and has the choice whether or not he wants to fire you or keep you. In the novel, George was asking if the boss was nice or not and one of them men responded saying that,” he is a sweet fella alright. Brang a gallon of whisky….
