In the beginning of the movie, it took long tiring days to get there to work. If they did escape, would George and Lennie be able to make it before Curley and the other guys caught up to him? They had no time to get out there; it wasn’t enough time and if they did make it to another town, the other boys were on horses and had guns. So if they even did get away sooner or later they would have caught up with them. If they caught up with them, George would have to stand there and watch his best friend get shot and George couldn’t of done anything to save his best friend. And it comes to this again, George didn’t want to watch his best friend that he had known for years suffer and die in pain. So George did it. I think that there was no time to go hide and escape so Lennie could have suffered. Have you ever seen those commercials about how owners and dog pounds have to put down animals? Imagine it like this Lennie is an animal, he’s getting sick and ill and too old there wasn’t a reason to let him suffer. What if George did tell him to leave, go find a cave and disappear? How would you feel if your best friend you’d known for several years said that to you and didn’t want anything to do with you? How would that make you feel? It would make me feel horrible, a fake friend, a backstabber. When George put Lennie down he didn’t want Lennie to suffer shot in the belly left there by himself not knowing if he was going to make it or die. I know if I had to shoot my best friend I would want to be the one that did it because I know I was their friend and I was the one that they trusted. Same goes for George when he killed Lennie; it would be super emotionaly to go through with it. But he did, he had to do it. We all know we aren’t all going to live forever; it’s just not going to happen, and death is one thing we have to face when its time. When it’s time to go it’s time to go. But George made sure before Lennie died, he wanted him to be relaxed and happy before it was Lennie’s time to
