The history of marriage dates back to the ancient times. Marriage was much about love and desire as it was social and economic stability. In the twelve century, Catholicism viewed marriage as a life long covenant between a man and a woman. During the Victorian period romantic love became viewed as the primary requirement for marriage and the rituals of courting were more formal. In Kate Chopin’s “ My Last Duchess” the main character is describing a painting to a stranger who was his ex wife and expresses his feelings negatively. Making it known that he was against her flirtatious ways and lack of respect. In today’s society, with the increase of divorces, it is understandable that people agree marriage does not carry the same values as it used to in the past. Though it is a valid point and statistically speaking more than half of marriage fail; changes in the 21st century such as open access to social media and premarital education can increase the chances of a successful
