Love is a game that many will play, but few will win. Love is simply a risk that has to be taken to proceed to the next step, even though someone may have to suffer the heart break and disappointment when the first step has failed. In Shakespeare’s The Tempest two individuals become over taken by the luminous thought of love at first sight. Even though the love may seem too quick to last forever it shows deep connections between the two young adults that could last a life time. Throughout the play a series of evens brings this love at first sight into the picture. Prospero uses his magical talents to sink the ship that Ferdinand is on and allows him to survive, Ferdinand and Miranda quickly begin to fall for one another and connect on a special level, and then Ferdinand …show more content…
“O, if a virgin, And your affection not gone forth, I’ll make you The Queen Naples.” Ferdinand takes a step outside the boundaries when he professes his need for Miranda with this statement causing Prospero to intervene quickly to break up the forming relationship. After Prospero’s stern statement Ferdinand drew his sword earning him a space in prison despite Miranda’s begging and pleading. Miranda begins with “O dear father, make not too rash a trial of him, for he’s gentle and not fearful.” Miranda wants her father to understand she trust Ferdinand and wants him for her own. “My affections are then most humble. I have no ambition to see a goodlier man.” At this point Miranda has eyes for no other man and her affections will be for only Ferdinand. In act 3, Scene 1, Ferdinand is laboring for Prospero in order to earn his respect back and show how much he truly loves Miranda.
