Analysis Of Heck By Dale E. Basye

What does it mean when someone asks you what the theme of the story is? Well, it means that they are asking you what the central idea of the story is. So, recently we’ve finished reading the book called “Heck” by Dale E. Basye. The book didn’t specifically have one theme, it had many themes. One of the themes was “Every moment of every day we decide our fate.” This theme was shown through characteristics and relationships of characters, how the characters faced conflict, and the author’s unique way of writing. First, the theme was shown through characteristics and relationships of characters. Some evidence that shows that this was shown through relationship and characteristics was “That is until Marlo Fauster smashed them into bits with the oar she’d stolen from Spoiled Sporting Goods,” which was found on page 3. The author, Dale E. Basye, can show his creative and unique way of writing the theme through language, imagery, details, diction, or syntax. The two ways I said the author used to show the theme was using imagery and details. On pages 109-110, it used imagery, it said: “Her yellow eyes rolled back into her head as a small coil of pink and blue electricity sizzled out and into her tube.” On the same token, on page 11 I found a detail, it said “Yet for Marlo and Milton, it was the last moment that they would ever share. On Earth, anyway.” The quotes above explains how the author’s unique way of writing shows the theme because since Milton made the decision to send Lucky on a mission to find his contract, that decided Lucky’s fate to get his spirit exchanged with Cerberus’s spirit. Then, it also explains that since Milton and Marlo stole, and they died from the marshmallow explosion, decided their fates to enter Heck.
