They grew up together and have always had a close-knit relationship. Ever since they were young, the girls were inseparable and their bond only grew stronger as the girl’s friendship continued. However, after a small conflict involving a boy, the pair began to drift apart. Rachel and Jaycee began to talk less and less as the next six months passed. A tragic event then happened that left Jaycee in an immense amount of regret. Her best friend since childhood was murdered. It was at this point in time that Jaycee realized she should have forgiven Rachel and not let one quarrel completely destroy their friendship. Jaycee thought to herself, “I look up at the white casket and Rachel, racking my brain for a follow-up conversation, wondering if those were really the last words we ever said to each other. It’s over. I can’t live like this anymore. We have to get rid of all the evidence’”(Wolf 329). Skylar turns completely crazy at the end and reveals his true character. In a last attempt to cover the murder, he tries to kill himself and Jaycee in a house fire but fails to do either of these. Jaycee survives only to realize that she should not have trusted Skylar in the first place, no matter how many lies he told her. She should have listened to Rachel in the note she left and only trusted Eduardo; after all, Rachel was her only genuine friend she knew she could depend
