Forgiveness And Redemption In Dave Bordow's Across Five Aprils

Across Five Aprils is a story based on the Civil War. This book talks about how it affects families, one family, in particular, the Creighton as well as the most horrific war the US has ever had. If you read this book you will find these two topics: forgiveness, and redemption.
What I am writing about first is forgiveness. Forgiveness is the act or process of forgiving or being forgiven. There was forgiveness when Matt forgave the Bordows and thanked them for saving Jethro's life (Hunt, 1964). Even more, forgiveness was found when Abraham Lincoln forgave Eb and the other deserters for deserting the Union (Hunt, 1964). There was more forgiveness when the North and South forgive each other after the war (Hunt, 1964).
Now I am going to write about redemption. Redemption is the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment. There were many times in Across Five Aprils that you could find redemption like, how Dave Bordow redeemed not only himself but his entire family

The reasoning behind this is that there were times in the war were the southerners were happier than the northerners. There were also times during the war were the northerners were more joyful than the southerners. The people that were affected negatively in the North where generally only the people that had lost someone in the family or lost someone that was a family friend. Also, another reason why people in the North might have been affected badly during the war could have had nothing to do with the war like maybe being behind on their school work or they had to do so much work that they were exhausted every day of the week. The people in the North were affected only in good ways when they were winning the war or when their kids came home. Maybe even when the found out that the North had just taken over some of the Confederacy

Across Five Aprils – A Book Response There are very few fiction books I enjoy reading; I like to read history books, especially ones that relate to WWII. However, Irene Hunt’s Across Five Aprils is a fictional book based on the American Civil War that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. The book takes the reader on a five year journey of the Creighton family and how they had to come to terms with the impact and effects of a war-torn family. Across Five Aprils tells the story of a young boy named Jethro Creighton who, at age 9, is forced to mature quickly during the War Between the States due to circumstances beyond his control. It is a story of forgiveness and self-esteem.…

In Judaism, their perspective on this concept is that one who has mistreated another must earnestly seek forgiveness from them, and they are expected to do so a number of times. The victim will be held accountable for the individual’s actions if they do not grant forgiveness, as it is their religious responsibility to do so, and thus, the person who has pursued their pardon will receive this from God instead. This concept of forgiveness is applied throughout the teachings of Judaism. However, if Christians endeavour to achieve forgiveness from God, and have exhibited this to others, the Lord will absolve these individuals from sin. Followers also request that God absolves the acts of unjust from those who committed a sin towards the individual.…

The Civil War was a devastating war that wiped out much of America’s population. The book written by James M. McPherson, What They Fought For 1861-1865, describes the views of the soldiers that fought in the war. McPherson uses letters left behind written by different civil war soldiers to portray a more round view of actions that took place on the battlegrounds. McPherson’s thesis does not present from both sides of the war what the soldiers, volunteers and enlisted men, of the Civil War had to faced, how they dealt with their emotions and experiences, the bond made between comrades, and how it affect their overall psychological, physical, and mental well-being of each combatant. This book contains diary entries from Union soldiers that were from the northern states.…
