Fantasy in Daniel Woodrell Winter’s Bone In the Winter’s Bone, Daniel Woodrell narrates a story of a girl Ree Dolly. She is trying to find her father, Jessup, who produces drugs, and then persuade him to show in the court. However, it is not extremely successful to find him since someone takes charge of Jessup. Ree asks many people about trail of her father but still has no answer. At that time, she gets scared from Uncle Teardrop and beat by other women in Dolly’s family. Victoria has an exotic garden. Obviously, the garden is a symbol of fantasy land for her. Victoria is a nice women but her husband Teardrop is a terrible person. He also products drugs like Jessup even he kills people. Maybe because of scared and uncertain life, Victoria breaks up the relationships with Teardrop. However, in Ozark, it is hard to survive for single woman because of violence and drugs trading. As a consequence, Victoria is married with Teardrop again. However, at this time, she does not extremely focus on love. She wishes she can settle down at one place; therefore she starts planting some food for preparation. In her mind, Teardrop is just a man that he can help herself survive at the area and only for surviving. She may stay a long time with garden. At least, she can escape from hungry not like Ree. Garden also gives her hope to live. As she mentions, the exotic fruit in the garden let her feel fresh and peaceful. (23) Actually garden is a fantasy of Victoria because garden can give her the ideally peaceful life that she wants. It helps her escape from cruel life because of Teardrop’s crime and hungry sometimes. She can enjoy a little peaceful in her garden and does not worried about insecurity problems such as survival
