Reality And Dreams Over Reality

Reality and Dreams can sometimes be difficult to differ between, especially when waking up very early from a very vivid dream. This odd competition like relationship between these two concepts make them interesting topics for all forms of art and literature. While many artists and authors have different opinions on which of the two is the better, a common theme seems to connect them. The interesting dynamic between these counterparts makes it understandable why theme that dreams can only last so long before reality takes hold is shared among many pieces. “The Party’s Over,” sung by Leslie Odom Jr., shows a theme that dreams have to end and reality has to, eventually, continue. The author uses repetition in each stanza, stating that the party is done. The author comes across as if they are trying to warn someone to not get caught up in the luxury of the good times, or their party. Using this repetition in every stanza connects the poem as a whole. The film uses sound to convey this, while the main character, Ray, is documenting his journey, he uses dream-like music. It shows he feels like he is on his way to having his dream become reality. On the contrary, most of the rest of the film doesn’t have much of a soundtrack. This shows the difference between what Ray thinks his life is, compared to what it really is. The film also uses symbolism in that Ray’s father lives very far from him and his mother, symbolizing the distance between Ray life and his father’s.
