They always say be careful with the people you trust, not everyone is who they appear to be. In the story Novel, Judi makes many efforts in getting everyone to believe her about Amber. To start off, Ben was madly inlove with Amber that he could not even notice the monster he was with. Amber posed to be the perfect wife for Ben. She lied about the job she had and about her family but only Judi knew about this. When Judi told Ben she was lying, he just said he already knew she had quit that job. Until finally amber made a huge mistake that made Ben finally believe Judi, Judi wasn’t the person she seemed to be either. She held a big secret that only Amber knew about and was gonna tell Ben but Judi didn't let that happen. This book proved to us that not everyone is who they seem to be, no matter how long you have known them, they can still be a completely different person. Judi's family knew her their whole life but never actually figured out the person she was. Ben knew Amber a few months and didn’t see the type of person she was before it was too late. The theme complex relationships, fits perfectly into trust. It shows how in the relationship between Amber and Judi, there is no type of trust built in. Judi didn’t have any trust with Amber being around her family and Amber didn’t trust Judi around Ben because she knew she could get into his head. Slater develops the theme of complex relationships in the novel Liar. Complex relationships are something that only the two people involved understand. The situations that they are put into such as Ambers and Judi’s, aren’t always pleasing. The way people act around us always makes us believe that they are a certain way but we don’t know how they are behind closed doors. Complex relationships make the people involved have to go through different obstacles, it shows that now everything goes our way with someone.
