The Kite Runner- Sin and Redemption
“The virtue of redemption helps us come out of the feeling of self blame”(Charu B.). In the novel The Kite Runner, Amir has always been trying to please Baba to make him proud and seek his approval, which he usually was never able to do. Amir was finally able to do so when he won the kite flying tournament. Baba had never been so proud, but the only task left was for Hassan to run and find the winning kite. After a period of time, Amir went looking for Hassan, and he found him in an alley with Assef and other bullies. He had the blue winning kite which was the key to Baba’s affection, but there was a price to pay for that kite, after all, nothing is free in this world. Amir witnessed an act of unwavering loyalty from Hassan as he was being raped in order to keep the kite. Amir had the opportunity to step in and protect him, but instead, he chose to run away. At some point of life, every body feels guilty for the wrong things that they have done, for the hurt that they have caused to other people. Seeking redemption makes one peaceful and makes them forgive themselves, it beings out a more positive attitude in that person, and peace in their minds. It also gives them a new, clean, and fresh start in their lives. It makes the person feel light. Seeking redemption provides a sense of freedom to the wrong doer and makes them suffer less and feel less misery and pain.
In the novel, The Kite Runner, in order to seek redemption, in order to be punished for his actions, Amir took Hassan to a pomegranate tree that had fallen to the ground and asked Hassan what he would do if he hits him with it, but Hassan didn’t reply. Amir took the pomegranate and hit him just so he could hit Amir back which would make Amir feel like he has payed for his sins. But Hassan never hit him
