There has been past cases found of celebrities taking advantage of vulnerable individuals. The article, “Jimmy Savile: the Questions for Bioethics,” written by distinguished research professor at Cardiff University, Ruth Chadwick, focuses on a particular incident that occured in the 60s and 70s. Chadwick began by finding that, “there have now been reports and allegations that Savile not only may have abused bodies in the mortuary, as well as living patients, but also that he invited other celebrities to the hospital…” Chadwick goes on to explain that, “there has been considerable discussion about the power of celebrity to lead people to overlook things that should not be overlooked.” In this example, famous radio personality, Jimmy Savile was found guilty of sexually abusing vulnerable patients in a hospital. Savile was able to use the power that came with being famous to get himself into the hospital. Celebrities should never force themselves on individuals who deliberately say “no,” much less people who cannot defend themselves. Writing on this same topic is Marcus Erooga, research fellow at the University of Huddersfield Centre for Applied Childhood. In his article, “"Moral Crusades in an Age of Mistrust: The Jimmy Savile Scandal," Erooga focuses on the justification of Savile’s actions and the impacts left by this scandal. In the present and the past, there have been examples of societal figures abusing the power that comes with their name. There have been examples in the past of celebrities sexually assaulting vulnerable people, setting up a pattern for future generations to follow in the same foot steps (Chadwick). Additionally, abuse of power has sparked a debate on the morality of the situation, proving that these power holders have been committing actions that can be seen as wrong(Formicola). Finally, the abuse of power has impacted the social aspect of today’s society, influencing the relationships formed between groups of people(Levin). In order to prevent these negative occurrences, it’s necessary to conduct more research on the most effective solutions. According to expert Ruth Chadwick, the solution to the abuse of power is hard to pinpoint due to the many factors that come into play. It’s crucial to regard all sides of a situation before coming to a conclusion. (Chadwick). Due to this information, a step by step solution is almost impossible to offer. Until more feasible solutions are available, this problem will continue to plague the vulnerable victims attacked by
