Literature is meant to provoke many different kinds of emotions and responses from the reader. However, the best literary stories are the ones that have stood the test of time and are read over and over again. But is something so old really relatable to modern thinking and society. The ancient literary texts can be a bridge between ancient and modern cultures. These stories have too many years between the point they were written and the time the reader is getting to them. Problems in society change as people and society itself advances. So problems from hundreds of years ago will be irrelevant to people today. However, these stories may be hundreds of years old, but they do still posses emotions and aspects of life relevant to today 's people.

Actual evidence needed to support these stories is continually lacking. Although, the factual evidence that has been discovered, and the factual evidence in the stories themselves help to give connections to modern times. Looking at sections from The Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis 6-9, many similarities start to appear between the two stories. In The Epic of Gilgamesh it talks about a great flood that came and wiped out human population. In Genesis 6-9 it refers to the same flood. In both accounts very limited people and species are spared. The Mesopotamians also had recollections of a great flood that was brought forth and desecrated the lands. All three of these stories say that the floods were brought forth by angry Gods punishing the people. When three stories of different areas all have the extremely similar accounts of one event in history, something had to have happened. People in modern times today are still proving that this flood wasn 't a myth. Aquatic researchers used mechanic divers to go down to the bottom of the Dead Sea, the supposed area of the flood. They found an ancient shore line with shells carbon dated back to the time of the flood in the stories. This shows that massive water amounts moved into the area around the same time as Genesis, the Mesopotamians, and The Epic of Gilgamesh proclaim. There are constant feuds and wars waged in the name of religion. People devote their lives into their religion, and many practice it every day. When stories have common aspects to the reader, it gives them something to connect to, something to give them a little more interest into the story. Religion fueled the lives of people in these times, it has dialed back a little for some, but to others it is still their entire life.
