Like a lot of kids I grew up with, I was raised in a “Christian” family. My mom was a devout Christian. At one point in my life I truly believed she had memorized the Bible word for word. Anytime myself or my older sister would do something wrong, my mother would know just the verse to recite to us to show us God did not approve of our actions. It is because of her my family resembled anything like a good church going American family.
My father was less devout. He was a man constantly under attack by his demons of drugs, alcohol, and lust. There were times he would be gone for days without word. Later in life I found out many of those occasions he would be in jail. My parents would eventually …show more content…
I did not believe I had done anything wrong on this particular day, so I was unsure as to why I was summoned. When I arrived at the office, I found out my mom was taken to the hospital. When I asked why the staff looked around at each other and told me this was not the place to talk, and they would inform me at the hospital. Once at the hospital they told me to take it the sixth floor and push the intercom for the nurse. Now I had been to the hospital several times before however, I had never heard of this protocol. I did what they said and got on the elevator. When the doors opened I saw a sign which read Psychiatric ward. My fears were confirmed when the nurse told me my mom had tried to commit suicide. They said she had attempted to overdose on her medications. They then asked me if she had any other family in the area. I told them all she has is me. There I got involved in many activities including martial arts. I loved learning Karate and other styles. I would stay in martial arts for the next 12 years. While taking Karate, I met Amanda.
