1. Many people and events of the Old Testament are critical to the understanding of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. The story of Abraham helps reveal an important message about Jesus through Abraham’s covenant with God. The third part of the covenant, blessing those who bless Abraham, is worked out through Jesus showing the world that it is not just Jews that need his message, but everyone. David also reveals an important facet of Jesus through his covenant with God. Part of the covenant includes that a son of David will be the King, using the genealogy of David as foreshadowing for the coming of Jesus as God’s Son. Finally, the Babylonian Exile is important to reveal information about Jesus Christ through the people’s adjustments to the foreign land. It showed not only how to worship through steadfastness and obedience to God, but also that one can live in accordance with both the divine and civil law, a concept that is a large issue for the followers of Jesus in the future. These events are what reveal the need for a Savior, the Son of God, to restore humanity’s relationship with God.
