“Welcome To –“read a sign that was found standing in front of a pathway leading into a lively town. Of course the sign advertised the name of the town but the old man didn’t seem to care to read it. He was a wanderer, he wandered endlessly with no destination because he didn’t have one; he didn’t have anything. He was old and had gray hair. His face was withered and his eyes were cold; almost mechanical. All of life’s hardships had taken its toll on him and it showed, for every wrinkle, there was an untold underlying story. The old man sighed in a depressed manner “So it happened again.”
His eyes extinguished its lively fire back to its cold mechanical gloss and he lowered his head. He began to slowly put one foot in front of the other, even doing something as effortlessly as breathing was a struggle because it equated with “living”. “There are millions of people in this world but why do I feel so alone?” The old man thought to himself.
The horrid scene from earlier was just one of the many vivid memories of the old man’s past that likes to constantly abuse the old man mentally and remind him of his losses. He struggle with this memory his whole life, he could never seem to catch a break. While he is awake he is constantly struggling with this intense memory replaying though his mind and at nights when you think he can finally rest peacefully; he is terrorized by the animated nightmare where he is locked up in his thoughts. The question that he knows oh so well is
“What if I……” And these three little words cause him the most
