The world’s fourth most popular sport is a sport of focus, hand-eye coordination, movement, and competition. Tennis has been around since the 12th century, causing it to be extremely ancient. Like any other sport, it has witnessed discrimination against certain groups of people. The game has drastically changed its views and people that were once prejudiced-people of color and women- are topping the charts and adjusting the barriers even more by initiating equal pay and equal rules. The decrease of race and gender discrimination has increased the quality of play, and has changed the way that tennis is structured and viewed.…
I would like to introduce two paintings from both Neoclassical periods as well as the Romantic to explain how the French Revolution affected. Jacques-Louis David was a leader of Neoclassical artists. Before the French Revolution, he commissioned from the King of France who made him on the work on Oath of the Horatii to express loyalty to the King and state. However, when the start of the French Revolution, David painted The Lictors Bring to Brutus, the Bodies of His Sons. It had been banned displaying on Paris Salon by the royal court because of its revolution-supporting theme.…
Strict liability principles may apply to a situation where the urine or blood samples collected from an athlete have results that show adverse analytical results. This means that every single athlete is responsible for any substances detected in their specimen. Development of the drug testing also indicates that persons violate anti-doping when the prohibited substances are present in their specimen. The athletes should be able to produce the specimen regardless of the fact that the athlete knowingly or unknowingly used the substance because of ignorance or by mistake. The anti-doping body does not take ignorance as an excuse for a person to use prohibited drugs because it has listed down all the prohibited drugs (Ehrnborg, Christer & Thord…
Everyone of all ages will be coming out to see the Woodward War Eagles take on the Buford Wolves in a tennis match that is already being dubbed “the match of the century”. The match will take place on Monday at the state-of-the-art facility known as Shailendra Tennis Center which can seat 20 lucky fans comfortably. The tennis center has recently added a brand new jumbotron where the fans are more interested in getting on the big screen than observing what is actually taking place on the courts. The students can not wait for the upcoming showdown as they are planning on blacking out the mammoth of a stadium. In order to do this, SGA is selling black t-shirts for twenty dollars apiece to come out of uniform on the exciting Monday and to where to…
I have decided to write a response paper to Jamie Schultz’s: “Reading the Catsuit: Serena Williams and the Production of Blackness at the 2002 U.S. Open.” I really enjoyed reading her journal and all the opinions regarding Serena William’s infamous catsuit. Although there are some negative opinions regarding Williams’ choice of outfit and the way she presents herself, but she has challenged the normative white identity in women’s tennis. She has pushed the boundaries not only in tennis, but also throughout women’s sports with her masculine physique and her extraordinary abilities on the tennis court.…
This paper analyzes the Instagram posts of Serena Williams. I will focus on how she represents herself on her Instagram. Especially, I will focus on how to deal with her representation as a black woman. Looking through her Instagram, it is obvious that she implicitly emphasizes on her blackness and womanhood in her post. Instagram is one of the popular SNS (Social Networking Services) in the world.…
Even before considering those rules one's ethical bases determines their moral reasoning as with the infamous sports agent Josh Luchs. Ethical bases are defined by deontology (based on rules or what is right), teleology (based on consequences of action or what is good) or existentialism (based on the individual or intentions, motives or character) (Malloy, D. C., Ross, S., & Zakus, D. H. (2003). Luch’s claims to have paid the first player that he ever tried to recruit and seemingly many after by justifying his actions as necessary because it was a part of the business. "People should know how the agent business really works, how widespread the inducements to players are and how players have their hands out.…
Profile of a Discourse Community Member Sleepy Eye is a small, rural town of about 3,599 people that rests in the south central portion of Minnesota. There are many discourse communities throughout this area, one of which being the Sleepy Eye High School Boys Golf Team. In the spring of 2016, the golf team was able to win, not only the Tomahawk Conference Championship, but the Section 2A Championship and advance to the state meet where they placed fourth as a team. It is safe to say that the team had a very successful year, however they were not always poised to be this great.…
I strongly believe that the events that took place in France from 1780-1812 help France and other nations progress to become a more stable democracy. The third estates revolted against the king and it was a turning point to world history. The poorest people did not have the chance to give their voices to higher status people but they still stood up for themselves until the king heard their voices, this event is the Tennis Court Oath. Robespierre was a very nice person and he helped defend the third estates but all of a sudden, he had turned into a monster. He had started killing many people and brought many innocent lives to death by him.…
Tennis Court - This is where the third estate made an oath against King Louis. This is a very significant room. Because this is where the the third estate officially declared himself against King Louis and the 1st and 2nd estates. This is the room where the wrote the famous Tennis Court Oath.…
The drawing La Destruction De La Statue Royale A Nouvelle Yorck by Franz Xavier Habermann represents the townspeople and the soldiers tearing down the statue of King George. The thirteen colonies had had enough and wanted to prove the were not scared of England and that they have equal rights, so they shouldn’t be treated differently (Doc 1). This painting is showing political change.…
The Estates-General, consisting of three chambers of society, met at Versailles on May 5th, 1789. The clergy, nobility, and the “Third Estate,” representing the common people, each had their grievances to the throne. Pouring in from the provinces, grievances of the people all had the common theme of political and social reform, most definitely for matching the new outlook on religion and government that the French adopted from the Enlightenment. The hopes of the bourgeoisie, represented in Abbé Sieyès’ pamphlet, expressed how the Third Estate was the nation’s voice in the government, highlighting how the two were about identical.…
NYU Shushanna Guy Jan-25-2016 Writing Workshop 2 Questions: “Documents”-Charles D’ambrosio When Charles D’ambrosio, asked his father about events from the past why do you feel that the father became so defensive? Why had he written off what Charles said as fictional? 2.…
The main purpose for this message is to attract the “ high class” men who can afford this watch. Tennis is a very popular sport that famous and rich people tend to group around and watch with each other. By targeting one of the most popular tennis player in the game right now and link this expensive watch to him is one way to grab their attention, but to also compare his game to the watch’s fashion statement by saying how complete is rogers game is stating that having this watch is going to complete your game just like it is completing rogers game. The main message they are trying to give off is that you need to look your best but also be your best, whether its playing a sports and breaking records or dressing up nicely and turning necks as you walk by.…
The Oath of the Horatii, commissioned by King Louis XVI, was originally designed to unite the suffering people of France in support of him and his rule, but ultimately backfired, as it was used as propaganda for the rebels during the French Revolution. The Oath of the Horatii inspires patriotism among people, ensuring they are loyal to their country and their rulers. The pose taken by the three brothers is also seen in the Third of May in the soldiers with their guns drawn. The meaning behind the figures differs greatly however because the soldiers in Goya’s painting face away from the viewer. This transforms the french soldiers from patriotic fighters, to a mindless killing machine, slaughtering a massive line of innocent peasants.…
