They Say Alana Semuels tells how Nashville, Tennessee has created some programs to make college less expensive. The article is showing how today's college students have to work 30-40 hours a week and still have student loan debt. The Tennessee Promise is a program that is used, this program can cover tuition after a student has applied for other federal or state grants that also pay for tuition. The main problem is that the program will not help college students graduate. To make sure that students graduate the Tennessee Promise now includes mentors who are willing to help new students. Although the Tennessee Promise has mentors, not enough people are using them to make the program worthwhile. Mentors can help people get more sleep, for example a mentor gave advice to a college student to stop taking night shift hours. If the mentor did not tell the student to stop taking so many hours, the student would have stayed working at night. Another program that Tennessee is looking to is a program that would help with the expenses of books like California. There are a quite a few programs out there for use, but students do not know how to get to them.

Everybody would be paying with taxes for this free college. Although people might not have to pay a lot of taxes, that is still more taxes that I personally do not want to pay. Another idea that I liked from the article was how there are programs that help with paying for books. Books, tuition, and living expenses is the main expenses for a college student. If books were cheaper at book stores and tuition was little to none, there would be a lot less student loan debt. My personal plans in the future is working while going to college because that will pay for a lot of the debt. There are ways to stay out of debt from college, but there should be a few more programs to help college
