The main dynamic that plays a major role in The Tempest is the desire for power. It is a tale of men searching for ways to murder the other in order to become the Duke of Milan. These power hungry individuals quickly drop all loyalty, and family ties in pursuit of the crown. The first to be betrayed is Prospero, as he and Miranda are sent out on a small raft into the ocean. This allowed his younger brother Antonio to become the ruler. Once Prospero and Miranda had safely arrived on the island, he learned how to control the magic of the island, to use it for his own benefit. Soon the story develops as the royal party is cast ashore upon this island.
As Ferdinand arrived on a different portion of the island away from the rest of the royal party, Alonso mourns for the loss of Ferdinand as he believes him to be dead. Yet the second Ferdinand arrives on the island he falls in love with Miranda instantly. This love story serves to break up the tale from the building violence. As Antonio, Prospero’s younger brother, convinces the king's younger brother Sebastian to kill his brother and gain all the power and prestige for himself. This happiness did not last for long as Prospero brought ghosts to an imaginary banquet in front of the wedding party accusing Antonio, Alonso, and Sebastian of their sins. This causes the party to break up as everyone runs away in fear. Prospero seizes this opportunity to regain his power as he is the final man standing. He begins to punish those who had sought after his death bed with a run through a briar patch, and a pond. After these punishments have been carried out, Prospero is again made the rightful Duke of Milan. Once Prospero has forgiven Caliban as he apologized for his mistakes, and punished his co-conspirators Trinculo and Stephano, Prospero plans the return to the home
