In the “Tell-Tale Heart,” most of the sensory detail is hearing and sight. For example in the “Tell-Tale Heart,” it says on line 139 “but the noise steadily increased.” (Poe). This sensory detail helps you hear what the main character hears. On the other hand in the “Monkey’s Paw” the sensory details mainly focuses on touch. On line 1 of the “Monkey’s Paw,” it says “the night was cold and wet” (Jacob) which appeals to your sense of touch because you can feel something wet. Another thing that is different between both stories is the theme. In the “Tell-Tale Heart” the theme is sometimes what you want can come back and hurt you. This is the theme because the main character wants to really kill the guy with the vulture eye but in the end, he feels the guilt and confesses to the police that he committed the crime. For example in the “Monkey’s Paw” on line 129 it says “I wish for two hundred pounds” (Jacob) and then in lines 200-201 the visitor “but he is not in any pain anymore” (Jacob) this means that Herbert has died. This makes the readers feel sad and gloomy because they just experienced a character’s death. What makes the “Tell-Tale Heart” sad is the fact that the main character kills someone just because of their eye. This is sad because the poor old man gets killed because the main character hates his eye and this makes the readers feel pity for the old man and also sorrow for him. Also, both the themes for the stories have to do with wishes. In the “Monkey’s Paw,” the theme is always happy with what you have. This means you should be happy with what you have and not wish for more and in the “Tell-Tale Heart” the theme is sometimes your wishes can come back and hurt you which means that just because you want something doesn’t mean you should achieve your goal and get what you want which means that both stories themes correlate and go
