“The Tale-Tell Heart” is a story full of unexpected switches and contrasts, starting from the entrance of a psycho murderer narrator, also a loyal servant, to a shocking and unimaginable outcome. The first impression I had while reading the title was to think it would be another romantic story; surprisingly, that had any or no relation with the real story content. Judging by the tittle, at first, Poe’s story seen to me like a tale full of romanticism told by an old man or a possible old lover, narrating his old love adventures or even making some up. The original purpose of that research was to gain a better understanding of Poe’s story, but the outcome of that research took some changes and I was able to develop different theories of the reasons and answer behind the unclear points and curiosities of The Tale-Tell Heart. In order to start my research I planned to look first into credible and more reliable print sources and then surf the web; otherwise, I believe the outcome would have been inaccurate. Thus, my research started in a book that describes and analyses many of Poe’s work. Edgar Allan Poe: Comprehensive Research And Study Guide by Harold Bloom, the author explain in detail the way Poe’s work can be analyzed and, in that way, obtain a better understanding of his writing. My goal was not only use Bloom’s work as a source but also to gain some of his experience and analysis skills on Poe’s literacy. Consequently, I was able to understand the web reviews written by other scholars. Some of the questions I previously had were answered after the research. For example, I came to the conclusion that the period of time when the story takes place is around the same time Poe was living.
