"We are almost there", said the bus driver. "Yes! Finally! Yeah!", was heard all around the bus. When they finally arrived, the girls and guys stepped out of the bus. One of the girls exclaimed, "I can not believe it! We are actually here." "Well, this is our day. Are we in?", asked the team 's cheer captain. "Yes!", everyone exclaimed. "On three. One... Two... Three... Panthers!" The cheer team ran excitedly towards the tents. Throughout the whole week, the Panthers cheer team fought in competition after competition. Slowly they crept higher and higher to the top. On the last day of the competition, they were battling the best cheer team in America, the Cougars. They thought that they had no chance to beat the Cougars, but they still believed …show more content…
She says, "After becoming female-dominated in the 1950s and 1960s, college cheerleading is now 50 percent male" (Yabroff 526). Saying that more males are joining the cheer teams, she uses five American presidents to prove her point. "FDR led the crowd at Harvard, and Eisenhower, sidelined from football by a knee injury, wielded the megaphone at West Point. Ronald Reagan played football as the Gipper on film but in real life he rooted on the basketball team at Eureka College as a cheerleader. And both Bushes had that rah-rah spirit at Yale; George W. cheered for Andover as well" (Yabroff 526). Yes, here Yabroff shows that men are joining cheer teams. Even the presidents, before they led the country, are cheering for teams. But, one thing that Yabroff fails to mention is if the presidents actually did back flips or front flips or even side flips. FDR led the crowd, but how did he do it? Did he do flips or did he just use a megaphone? Eisenhower originally played football, but due to a knee injury, his only option to participate in the game was to use a megaphone and cheer his teammates on. Ronald Reagan was indeed a cheerleader, but did he do flips or did he just talk? And lastly we have the bushes, Here, Yabroff says that they had rah-rah spirit. So, maybe they were the only real cheerleader? A point that Yabroff tries to get through is that cheerleading should be an official sport because more males are joining teams. So, think …show more content…
Cheerleading should be counted as a sport. Even though Yabrough says that cheerleading should be an official sport, cheerleading should not be counted as a sport just because more males are joining the cheer teams. Yes, the males give more variety to the cheer squads and sometimes make them more balanced. But, that should not be the reason for cheerleading to be a sport. There many all-female cheer teams, and they should be given the same opportunity to be counted as a sport like the football or baseball or basketball teams. It should not matter if males are joining the cheer squad or not. Cheerleading should become an official sport! Are you

Many people didn’t consider the thing I love the most, the thing that drives and pushes me to be the best in life, and the thing that many people live for not a sport. The thing frustrating me the most is when people think Allstar Cheerleading is not a sport and they are usually the ones that don’t understand what it takes to be an Allstar Cheerleader and why it is in fact a sport. As the advancement in Cheerleading came full force into the world, during the early 1980s, there were many Cheerleading squads that were not associated with their school programs. These squads main focus and objective was the competition side of Cheerleading.…

Being that Clifton High School is a diverse school, the cheerleading team reflects on that as well. When looking at the roster of the cheerleading team you will see many ladies and gentlemen who are of various colors of skin. When speaking to different cheerleaders on the team, one might notice the different dialect or accents the students speak in. Clifton desires to keep their cheerleading team as diverse as possible and one main way that the coaches have been doing that over the past three years is by keeping the varsity team “co-ed”, meaning male students are allowed to try out as…

Alyssa Roenigk, a senior writer for ESPN, presented an argumentative article, “Sorry, Cheerleading is not a Sport,” which opened a pivotal argument on cheerleading being classified as a sport. Roenigk states that all cheerleaders are athletes, but cheerleading should not be considered a sport. Why is this? Roenigk claims that sports teams are made to compete, to go against another team to win, not to entertain the crowd. Although Roenigk tries to persuade her audience that cheerleading does not fall under sporting guidelines, she contradicts her argument in immeasurable ways as she shifts cheerleading “athletes” away from sport.…

High School Sports Should high schools be all about education, and grades? I couldn’t see myself getting up in the morning excited to learn trigonometry. Let alone be happy in a place like my school. My point would be that I only come to school because I find motivation in the sports that this school has to offer. I tell myself I have to turn my homework in, or I need to read this page, and study so I can pass my test to play Friday night.…

The girls in cheerleading have practice regularly and they practice their routines and stunts at every practice to make it better. Just like any other sports cheerleaders have to be physically able to do all of the routines otherwise they won’t make the cut. “Not only is it obviously athletic to the eyes, but cheerleading also fits the literal definition.” There is so much information that backs up cheerleading as a sport like: they need to train and workout, there is competitions, the girls have to attend practices, and the whole point of cheerleading is to execute the routine better than the other teams. I think that this idea is one of the strongest reason cheerleading should be a sport though there is many other reasons cheerleading should be included as a…

Cheerleading has always been a very important aspect to my life. In high school our cheerleading squad had an experience that proved cheerleaders do not get the respect from other athletes that they deserve. As a cheerleading squad, we were at every football and basketball game, even the away games. We were there to show support for our fellow athletes, however when our squad was in a cheerleading competition, not one of the other athletes came in support of us. This showed the lack of respect other athletes had for our cheerleading squad.…

Though still new and misunderstood, competitive cheerleading is a sport and should be treated as one by society. It not only requires an undeniable amount of endurance and strength, but it also fits the definition of a sport perfectly. When it is considered a sport, the amount of injuries will drastically decrease, protecting the lives and bodies of our sisters, brothers, daughters and sons. Cheerleaders defy gravity and look good while doing it. Their teammates are their brothers and sisters, and their coach is their second mom or dad.…
