Pelayo and his wife, Elisenda, find an old man with giant wings. The old man’s appearance was ragged, dirty, smelly, and he had “only a few faded hairs left on his bald skull and very few teeth in his mouth. . .” Now, a man with wings must have been a crazy sight to see, and Pelayo even described it as a “nightmare.” Comparing the sight to that of a nightmare probably meant it was more alarming and shocking to see an old man with wings, than truly being …show more content…
This story demonstrates how a narrow mind clouds the vision. Without taking the time to analyze all possibilities, and the lack of investigating the meaning of things, people grow to into a blind stupor and will be gullible to just about anything someone says. The story also is an example of how people get so wrapped up in the mundane details of life, they fail to see the beauty all around them. Many lessons could have been learned from the old man with wings had people taken the time to try and get to know and understand him. It was a great learning lesson in humanity that everyone missed out on because they were so wrapped up in everyday life, and being blind to the beauty that could have been seen. Things are not always what they appear and judged purely on appearance alone, will often be the wrong assessment and an opportunity will to be impacted by what could possibly the most important event in someone’s life will be
