Marjie is about 16 and attends high school. But she is not like an average teenager. Marjie is kept to herself and really strong. In the book Marjie is kept to herself for many reasons. One example is she is scared to tell anyone that’s she is abused. Also in the book, She goes to a therapist and the therapists asks why she doesn't run away she says “ I did once.”(Merullo,81). Also when the therapist asked her why she did go back she thought “Any person who goes back to beaten knows about that. The real reason hides in a deeper place”.(Merullo, 81). But contrast to that she is a really strong girl.In the book there are boying days. Where she mentally and almost physically begin to act like a boy. For example she is not allowed to wear her bra . On Boying days they douse meaning they take her into the backyard where a stream is located and dump freezing water on her no matter what season. she says that she pretends that cold water is something else on her body so she doesn't flinch or move she let’s it happen(Merullo,73). Also her parents church as I have said before is like a cult even if they don't know it. So her Marjie’s parents said she committed the sin of disobedience, so they took her up onto the table put a paper bag over her head and let all the parents of the church poke her eyes. She ended up coming home with a Black eye and a busted lip and numerous nail marks. This is why Marjie is kept to herself and …show more content…
He is portrayed by the man who helps Marjie get a job. I predict that Mr.Ivers has been through a lot when he was a kid. This is because he was abused and he is really carefull with Marjie. In the book he tells Marjie that he was molested when he was a little kid. He asked her about sex in general but wanted her to be safe because it had happened to him (Merullo,150). Also when Marjie comes to work with all her bruises on her face he was about to ask like any sensible adult would But he see’s something and gives her nod knowing something crazy happened. Also how careful he is with her. In the book he does not over work her like her parents do on boying days. He lets her relax a bit even though she doesn't want to. Another factor that helped draw this conclusion was how he kept her safe. In the car while she is driving with him to Boston, she explains how her father could care less about what happens to her in the car.(Merullo,144).This is why I predict the Mr.ivers has been through

The novel “ Tomorrow Girls behind The Gates” is written by Eva Gray, it can both be read by children and adults. The main message in the three chapters during week four is that if you hang around negative people and they do bad things, then you will be grouped as bad as well even though you did nothing wrong because you are “guilty by association.” I believe that if your friends are being good, then you will be good as well, but if your friends are bad, then you will be influenced by these bad friends and you will be looked at as being bad. The end of the story ends with all of the girls from Country Manor going on a scavenger hunt for their science experiment to try to see if the can survive for two weeks. Although it shows the negative light that men view women in, Marji’s dream to be a prophet also serves to characterize her as having a strong sense of individuality, as well as being extremely morally sound. Marji's mother, however, is the person who has passed on these fantastic characteristics. She is even willing to stand up to a fundamentalist man threatening to shoot her husband, which turns out to be a successful exchange. The offender states shortly after that, “You’re lucky to have this woman for your wife, otherwise you’d already be in Hell!” (109, panel 2).…

Kohlberg stated that people’s moral reasoning develops in stages. In My Girl the protagonist’s moral development is seen through her actions. Vada would be classified in the “Preconventional Morality” level, stage five “Individualism and Exchange” which is marked by the idea of being good so as to attain rewards and to avoid punishments. If the reward is greater then the risk, the actions are justified. Rather than seeing herself as part of society and wanting to contribute to it, Vada is focused on her individuality and how society can give her what she wants.…
