Application of the Genogram Collage is an effective tool in family therapy allowing Sarah and john to see patterns with their generations further see patterns of the genogram and how behaviours can be passed down if Family do not participant in treatmnet. In the case of John he has left his Family without telling anyone causing Sarah anxiety in their marriage (M, Hagood 2000). In the case of Sarah and john the genograms will allow them to analyse their generation and how they felt about any issue that has been experienced. This will allow Sarah to go back from when her father Max committed suicide and how she felt that she was to blame for this action, this can be further analysed together with john to see how she can deal with this moving forward by applying appropriate intervention. Further the genogram will also reveal the fact Jon father had left his mother and the reason to why Sarah believes that he should discuss this in therapy. John states hat it is no longer an issue for him in which case it was a problem, which need to be explored to understand he is now, relieved form this experience. The importance of relief through assessing the issues to then have interventions through coping mechanism for the family as a whole. The systems thinking approach will assist me as a counselor to understand patterns of Sarah and John past events in life, patterns of their behavior which has contributed and resulted to these events and the vital information of the fundamental structure responsible for the patterns of behaviors, As a counselor once you have identified the underlying structure of patterns in behavior, this will allow leverage points to effect change in the family systems.
