How should we think about ethics? In order to answer this ultimate question, we must first understand the crucial concepts of ethics, but before we look into the concepts, it is essential to state the basic definition of ethic because the word “ethics” is the basis of the question. In our society, ethics is commonly defined as the study of morals, which are the standards of right and wrong that show humans what to do. Knowing this, we can continue with the concepts of ethics. First of all, we have to understand how knowledge about ethics is gained. Then, we must recognize how these ethics are present in the areas of knowledge. This theory claims that ethics depends on the culture and the people within that culture. For example, in India, it was ethical to burn the widows with their deceased husbands. This was seen as unethical by the British Empire as they told the Indians that they will shoot them if they do not stop. However, this means that the British Empire thinks it is ethical to shoot people in order to stop them from doing an unethical tradition. This brings up how diverse ethics is throughout the world as each culture has their own ethics. Therefore, moral relativism is the most reasonable way to look at ethics as ethics can widely differ within its unique context. In identifying the ways of knowing, we have clarified that people take different approaches toward various ethical issues under their own unique context. Then, we explored the areas of study in which ethics are involved, and discovered that certain context, such as time period, can create different viewpoints on ethics. By clearly evaluating the meta-ethical theories after identifying the crucial elements that compose ethics, we discover that moral relativism is the most reasonable way to look at ethics as ethics can widely differ within its unique
