Media!? Merely, a means of communication, connecting and reaching people from every corner of the world, accessible from the palm of your hand. The media influences the things people see and believe in. The lifestyles they choose, and people they interact with. Stereotypes place labels on every culture, nationality, gender, religion and age groups. These labeled groups of people become rebellious. Allegations made against Arabs through the media seem to outweigh the truth. Among the numerous labels attached to Arabs, women are most frequently restricted, silenced and veiled, unnecessarily marking Arab women as oppressed or victims of matrimony. For over two years Mazoun has been fighting to persuade parents to keep their daughters in school, instead of marrying them off. The violent civil war in Syria without restoration in sight, evacuated Syrian parents are progressively searching for early marriages to secure the financial future of their daughters. Mazoun began the one-girl campaign to discourage the marrying of daughters at a young age. Many girls fell target to sexual and domestic abuse by their much older Arab husbands. These Arab men from Gulf countries paid dowry, economically securing the parents, but renouncing the girls in poverty, from inadequate financial scenarios because of lack of education. Mazoun believes that as refugee children education is vital, “On the contrary, in such difficult circumstances we need to focus and strengthen our resolve and capabilities for the moment we can return to Syria. Syria will need doctors, engineers and teachers. We always need to keep our future in mind.” Mazoun enthused about her inspiration the Pakistani Malala Yousafzai whom she met soon after. She was also lucky enough to be in attendance when Malala received her Nobel
