Essay On Syrian Civil War

The Syrian Civil war has been plaguing the Syrian Arab Republic for many years; inflicting large casualties on the people of Syria. There seems to be no reasonable or possible resolution. The current government in Syria, the Assad regime, is backed by Russia and is fighting against rebel groups backed by the United States. There are also terrorist organizations attempting to push their agenda in the region which complicates the situation. The United States and Russia are on opposing sides of the Syrian conflict; therefore tensions have been rising between the two nations. As a result of the ever increasing tensions, the media is starting to discuss the possibility of World War Three. Russia and the United States are unwilling to compromise on many fronts. Though they have tried to reach agreements, every agreement has been quickly ended because of the nations’ reluctance to cooperate. There is a fundamental misunderstanding between the two nations that prevents them from reaching any resolutions. Group antagonism is the ongoing animosity for a person or group of people based on their membership of a particular group. In other words, group antagonism is when dislike is based on group membership. Group antagonism has three components: stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. Russia and the United States have not bee on good terms since the Cold War. Since the Cold War, relations between Russia and the United States have ebbed and flowed between good and bad, but the relationship between the two nations has not been beneficial since the Cold War. Tensions between the two nations have not always been as high as they are now or as high as they were during the Cold War, but there has not been a time in recent history
