With no adults, many of the boys are confused and don’t know what they should do. The boys realize that they need to start some survival skills if they would like to stay alive. For most of the boys this is all new to them. Luckily others have been put in a situation where survival skills were needed so they can think creatively and find things to help him survive. “His specs- use them as burning glasses!” (Golding 40). Here is an example of the boys using objects they have to help them survive on the island alone. They use Piggy’s specs to create a fire by reflecting the sun off of them. Without someone babying them or telling them what to do, the boys need to feed off of each other's ideas and collaborate in order to survive. Additionally, this is where a lot of the boy’s innocence is lost; simply because they do not know how to act as adults and because of this they start to act in a violent manner. “You should have seen the blood!” (Golding 70). Here is an example of how the boys refer to violence as something you should be in awe or excited about, when really there is nothing exciting about violence and should be the last thing they think about as a youth. They had to learn how to survive on their own, create a society all on their own, work together to perform tasks more efficiently, and in some cases did everything possible just to have power and control. Although, some of the boys did not achieve their goal the efforts they made towards it is what caused their loss of innocence. Some people will never be thought of as violent, whether it’s regarded to age or level of maturity. William Golding takes a different route and suggests that anyone even a kid can become violent and savage under certain circumstances or conflicts one might face. Everyone has the ability to switch from a charismatic choir boy to a savage murderer depending on what your motives are and what you are going
