There are stories that have meanings but are not that amusing like the story of Young Goodman Brown. From a couple who are pure to the devil himself and his serpent like staff, these are a few of things to expect from the story. Like in the real world, people have religious beliefs but they also commit sins.People commit sins without trying too. They commit them with people or with themselves and sometimes with things. These sins may also make you think about your innocence. “Young Goodman Brown” goes through a journey as he loses his good side to the evil side as he does things that make him lose his innocence. “He had taken a dreary road, darkened by all the gloomiest trees of the forest , which barely stood aside to let the narrow path creep through, and closed immediately behind” (1; par. 9). As Goodman Brown walks through the forest, he starts to realize that he is being pushed towards the bad side. “The road grew wilder and drearier and more faintly traced… instinct that guides mortal man to evil” (5; par. 6). The forest represents the devil’s abode (home). Goodman makes the journey through sin and darkness. The forest for Goodman doesn't feel right as his continues his journey. He feels like evil is getting to his close to his good side. Similar to the forest, Goodman Brown himself symbolizes the loss of innocence. “With this excellent resolve for the future, Goodman Brown felt himself justified in making more haste on his present evil purpose” (1, par. 9). Goodman Brown himself believes that he is good man and is part of the good side. As he goes on this journey, he starts to see that he is being pushed towards the evil side. Goodman Brown represents the good and evil that some people give in. Goodman Brown goes through the journey of those who don’t know what they really believe in and and end up switching what they believe
