Topic Sentence: The wallpaper symbolizes her relationship with John. The color of the wallpaper lures her and reminds her the sweet side of him. Then once she’s in the wallpaper (marriage) he cages her (locks her up, prohibited to write) and she’s trying to escape.
In the first place, if you’ve ever read the short story, “the Yellow Wallpaper” you would understand how confusing it is. But the thing is, what does it mean? What does this short story symbolize? There’s a part in the story that could probably have a totally different meaning, it said “It’s dull enough to confuse the eye in following, pronounced enough to constantly irritate and provoke study” What does this mean? Is it meant to express how she feels towards John? In the previous paragraph I talked about how vigorous he was, now, what if this specific little sentence actually meant how John suddenly transformed after marriage? She could actually be explaining how he irritates her whenever he’s with her because he is caging her. Or that maybe that he got boring, dull. I mean, he’s basically trapping her by making her stay in one room, not going out, not letting write, and not letting her do anything around the house. Why though? The only thing he’s doing is making it worst, he’s making her feel useless, as if she is just a waste of space. She feels less of a woman, she can’t do the things other woman did during this time period.
