The reason I drew a description of hell was to show how it feels to be in Bud’s mind. Each item in the picture explained how he felt and believed. The mountain representing his curiosity, the suitcase is explaining his pride, the cracks on the road showing the dangers of the journey, and I could go on and on. I wanted you to look at the picture and fit the puzzles to the story.…
Sekhar wanted to be honest for a day and i believe being truthful is way better than lying but there is also limits. Sekhar achieved his goal but to be honest he was very rude. First of all, Sekhar should not have been very harsh with his wife's cooking but instead be nice and honest about it. If a person dies even though you don't know/like them you should always be a bit understanding, Sekhar was being honest and very rude to his colleague who was grieving and sad about his friend. Death is a very tragic and depressing thing, it is the number 1 thing that causes depression and Sekhar should have known that some people are very sad about what happened and should not have been very insensitive about the death.…

Edwards uses imagery to create a mental image for the audience. He depicts an image of what the fate of sinners could be like. He states, “there is the dreadful pit of the glowing flames of the wrath of God… nothing to stand upon… nothing between you and hell but the air.” There is a bottomless pit of hell, in which holds the unworthy souls who have sinned as a punishment because God is angry and has the ability send the sinners into the torments of hell. Those who sin are already bound to go to hell with no way out.…
The transcendentalist movement has had a considerable influence on authors, although many did not fully agree with some aspects of this ideology. One such writer is Herman Melville. His short story ‘Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street’ will be my main focus in order to illustrate the transcendentalist impact on American literature. Emerson’s works will serve as points of reference to show in what ways Melville incorporated or objected to transcendentalist beliefs. Based on the context of early-nineteenth century capitalism overrunning America with its commerce, its industry, its science, its philosophy, its politics and its civil code, I will take into account the ethics of Wall Street that are central in my reading of ‘Bartleby,…
Herman Melville alludes to the Romantic theme that the corruption of man is always conquered by the power of nature, therefore in the realization of his inevitable death by foolishly challenging nature, Stubb wishes to divulge in one last sexual act, as represented by his exclamation of cherries. In order to fully comprehend the significance behind cherries one must first analyze the events leading up to Stubb's delirious exclamation. In this scene, the men are in pursuit of the great white whale, resulting in their ship getting whipped around and the men going overboard. Stubb eventually accepts his fate as he alludes that he is beyond the help of any powerful force. He states, “Look ye, sun, moon, and stars!…
By pairing the art of cartooning with the stories of Vladek and Anja Spiegelman, Art Spiegelman’s graphic novel Maus reveals the adversities faced by Holocaust victims. In his work, Art includes the conversations and interactions he has with his father Vladek as he tries to gather details from not only Vladek’s memories about World War II and the Holocaust, but also from his deceased mother’s experience. Although he gains much insight from his father, his mother’s story and presence in the graphic novel seem to be muted and paled in comparison. Due to Anja’s suicide in 1968, five years before the publication of the first volume of Maus, as well as the destruction of her diaries from the Holocaust, Art Spiegelman is forced to rely solely on…
The struggle between good and evil is a powerful theme in the book. The most prominent example of this is Valjean's battle to transform from an immoral, miserable convict to a truly good man. The candlesticks are a very powerful symbol of love, that drives Valjean through his transformation. Misery is represented at the very beginning of the book, with the imagery of the protagonist and his interactions and dialogue with other characters. He has just gotten out of prison and is looking for somewhere to sleep and something to eat.…
Beowulf Style Assignment • 3 Examples of Alliteration • Example #1 a. “He was spawned in that slime,/ Convinced by a pair of those monsters born/ Of Cain, murderous creatures banished/ By God, punished forever for the crime/ Of Abel’s death.” (“Beowulf” 19-22) b. This use of alliteration helps us understand the story it demonstrates the idea that Grendel is a monster because he was created to bring destruction, agony, and despair among people. Therefore, when it states, “spawned in that slime” it is referring back to Cain’s murder of his brother Abel, and how Cain was cursed forever. Therefore, Cain is the root of Grendel’s evilness.…

The human psyche has long been a mystery to scholars and philosophers alike. Long working to analyze the cognitive process, scholars strive to make sense of human actions. Psychoanalytic theory, popularized by Sigmund Freud through his works, The Uncanny and Beyond the Pleasure Principle, focuses on gaining deeper understanding of human behavior on the psychological level. In terms of literary criticism, psychoanalysis provides a way to analyze where a character’s actions stem from and thus allowing readers to gain a profounder understanding of their psychological state. Applying Freud’s psychoanalytic to an analysis of Herman Melville’s novella, Billy Budd, will shed light on certain aspects of the story.…

Introduction The struggle is real, in the” Journey of the Magi,” by T. S. Elliot, written in 1927. Elliot expresses the long journey through the dessert. He conveys how the journey of mankind in the natural is similar to that of a man who decides to leave his sinful lusts, lays down his life and picks up his cross to follow Jesus Christ. Although, the death of the old man is a struggle, laborious, and painful, it opens to a birth of a new creation, it is that death to the flesh which brings new life, an abundant life, transformation is that of both suffering and restoration.…
