The attire and form of Faith are operated as a tool to easily express the two previously labeled symbols of Faith; for example, Brown “… exchange[s] a parting kiss with his young wife. And faith… thrust her own pretty head into the street, letting the wind play with the pink ribbons of her cap” (Hawthorne 1). The parting kiss shared between the two symbolizes the literal and abstract. What can be easily analyzed from the kiss is that they are soon going to depart, separate, but it can be examined even farther and can be determined as a catalyst of future events. It functions as a portent that Brown should stay with what he loves and his faith rather than advancing through his journey; moreover, Faith is surrounded by descriptive words such as “pretty”, “young”, and “… letting the wind play with the pink ribbons of her cap”, and thus …show more content…
