The type of altar decorations presented are candles, fresh flowers or flower petals, photographs, favorite food and beverages, water, incense, bread, sugar skulls, statue of Saint, and hobbies or interests. In Mexico, the traditional flower that are displayed on altar are yellow marigolds as known as cempasúchitl. These marigolds are colored yellow like the sun and is symbolic to represent life and hope. The skull is symbolic to American as death; however, to Mexicans, the skull also resembles rebirth. The candle or burn incense is symbolic of welcoming the spirits. In the Vincent Price Museum, an exhibit on the day of the day of the dead presents colorful decorated altars.
