Hip Hop Fest Concert Report

Great Essays
The Super Fresh Hip Hop Fest was the event that I attended with the Philosophy 444 class. The event took place at the Lakefront Arena, where we were surrounded by people from the seventies and eighties. At this concert, we had the pleasure of listening to famous and local artists as well as DJs, who played popular hits. The performers were Doug E. Fresh, Too Short, Slick Rick, DJ Kool, Dana Dane, Roxanne Shante, UNLV, Gregory D and Partners N Crime. As we were watching the performers, I observed the other concert attendants and noticed some interesting things. Many of the viewers were dressed in iconic 80’s hip-hop wear. I also saw many of the audience members doing famous dances from the time period. I felt a sense of community amongst the people who were attending. For example, there were two people who were called up to do dances from the 80’s. The chemistry between them …show more content…
His lyrics were vulgar and disrespectful. He told the all the women in the audience “I wanna see you bitches shake your asses for me”. When he said that, I was legitimately angry. Then he started saying, “What’s my favorite word?” The whole crowd, which was made up of mostly women, said “Bitch”. I was flabbergasted. I could not understand why everyone, especially the women, was okay with this. Now I know that this was a case of cultural relativism. The people in the audience were raised to think that sexist language is okay in hip-hop, and that what says has nothing to do with him. According to Webster’s dictionary the definition of bitch is “the female of the dog or some other carnivorous mammals”. When I hear women being called a bitch, she is being called less than human. She is being referred to as someone who cannot make decisions for herself, because she incapable of doing so, like an animal. I strongly dislike the derogatory term and would never tolerate being called such a word. Too Short was the worst part of the

Summer Twins Review: A Dreamy Dance Party Kicking off Valentine’s Day weekend with great music is not a bad way to dive into the holiday, for couples and singles alike. This last Friday, February 12, Summer Twins performed at Acerogami, Pomona, CA, joined by Veronica Bianqui. The entire event had a drinks-with-friends vibe, framed by the venue’s exposed brick, low lighting, projected music videos, and a few heart-shaped balloons at the stage. The beauty of smaller venues is the level of comfort they create. Conversation before and after the show flowed easily, from excitement about the performers to stray cats and operatic voicemails.…

“Bitch” can be defined more than one way, for example, it also means “A man willingly or unwillingly submits to the will and control of another dominant partner in a sexual relationship, especially with another man, as in Prison Bitch or a gay man who assumes the passive or female role in a sexual relationship.” This offensive word affects everyone but it has only seemed to have a greater impact on women in a sense that the word is only meant for…

On the night of September 30th, I was able to attend the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra’s concert at Baldwin Wallace University. A feature that made them unique was their ability to arrange modern songs into a salsa format. It was a lively performance where many audience members danced along with the band, demonstrating the danceable feature of the music. The orchestra used many of the traditional salsa instruments, including timbales, conga drums, a cowbell, and a guiro.…

Personal Narrative It took us about 3 hours to get to Shakopee, it was only 60 degrees, but with the thousands of people lined up, waiting to get in, it felt like 90. We stood in that line for two hours. For awhile, we talked, we met a variety of people, we laughed, we were excited. But once we got closer to the front of the line we all got quiet, this is it, we were in, we were all going to see our idols.…

Every day, I try to listen to a new piece of music. Whether it be a string group, unaccompanied choir, or even a percussion consort, I believe that by doing this, so much can be learned from just listening. About the mid-month of July, I came across this piece of music. I thought it was extremely fun and quirky at the same time! I had continued to listen to it, read some background information on the piece, and do a small amount of study on the work.…

    Essential Criminal Law

Criminal thoughts are not penalized by criminal law because it is hard to determine whether or not the person is actually angry, aggravated, annoyed or is actually ready to commit a crime. The harm happens when thoughts are translated into action (Carper, McKinsey, 2008, p. 228). Someone might claim they were hurt or harmed by those words, but there is no proof to determine that. However, proof can be displayed if the individual actually commits the crime. The Government would just gain more power to invade our individual privacy, if they charged people over criminal thoughts.…

Opening night, the dancers that performed in the University Dance Theatre production, had talent, agility, and graceful movements. The concert had a variety of dance genres, visual appeal, and emotions that each piece and the show overall represented. Humor, drama, and serenity were not emotions I thought I would receive while watching these dances. One thing I did not realize would make many of the pieces was how crucial and reliant lighting and graphics were necessary to make the piece more visually interesting. However, I was excepting similar dances and movements; even if, some pieces had comparable choreography and emotional appeal the diversity stood out.…

I attended the Stones River Chamber Players on February 29th. This was played in the Hilton Music Hall. When I was going in I did not know what to expect because I have never been to a music concert on the MTSU campus. There were around 60-70 people who attended this concert. Most of the individuals who attended were more than likely there for a class because more than half were students who did not understand the concept of staying off of their phone.…
