There was a time, before sound was introduced to film and culture was hand picked for society, when stars were born and bred on the stage. Actors who grew an understanding of their craft by clocking in rehearsal hours, feeding off an audience during live performances, and praying to the right gods, were signed on for a starring role in a film: an advancement in their career. Today, the craft of acting and the medium in which an actor is showcased have changed landscapes and the up-and-coming “starving actor” is struggling for work. Casting for film has long been equated to having the right “look” and there seems to only be two ways to get your feet on a Broadway stage: insane talent and luck or celebrity status. Broadway’s marquees have historically been crowded by celebrity names that draw audiences and drive ticket prices up, and with recent seasons, it seems more impossible than ever to see a green name receive the top bill— raising concerns that big names are cast for profit and not artistic integrity.…

During the 2012 election the democrats are the ones with the higher voting numbers, and more than often it’s a Democrat that gets elected. Most of the votes rely on demographics however, particularly the voters of diverse race and ethnicities. The white vote isn’t weak but nonetheless the Hispanic vote is often the stronger one, especially during the 2004 election although the white vote was significantly stronger in the 2012 election and still serves as something of a threat as most whites vote Republican. Hispanics, however, have the largest population that only increases within every year and the most voters are Hispanic, so winning them over would increase chances of winning.…

The live music event I attended was a Flamenco music featured at a Pan-latin American restaurant here in Houston. The music was performed by Guillermo Serpas, a Nuevo Flamenco guitarist in Houston whose unique style combines a fusion of Spanish Guitar, Latin Jazz, and World Music. In this restaurant there are two main areas and the environment of each varies drastically. Inside if the restaurant you will find a bar and a very small stage, however this stage was not in use when I attended. And then outside of the restaurant on the patio you will find a much livelier seen where every Sunday the restaurant hosts a Pig roast which is very familiar to me coming from my Cuban culture.…

Racial inequality is another issue that can greatly affect families, especially those in minority groups. As a population, if we continue to learn to be more open and accepting, we can hopefully eliminate many of these issues. Although they may seem similar, race and ethnicity have completely different meanings.…
