The Sun is not the only star in the Milky Way. Another star close to Earth is Alpha Centauri C, also called Proxima Centauri. Unlike the Sun, Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf star. Every star has a spectral type. The Sun is a G2 while Proxima Centauri is a M5. This means that the Sun has a higher temperature and possibly a brighter light than Proxima Centauri. The Sun is also 1 AU away from Earth while Proxima Centauri is 271,000 AU away from Earth. Compared to Proxima Centauri, the Sun is 3,100 Kelvin more hotter being that it is 5,800 Kelvin while Proxima Centauri is 2,700 Kelvin.

It is mostly made up of hydrogen and helium. The Sun makes up 99.98% of the mass in the Solar System. The Sun is also made up of multiple of layers like Earth. The inner layers consist of the Core, Radiation Zone and the Convection Zone. The Core is 150 times more dense than water and is measured to be around 15 million degrees celsius. This is where nuclear fusion occurs and energy is released. The Radiation Zone is the layer above the Core. This is where the released energy from the Core travels and it’s dense enough to take the energy 100,000 to pass through the Radiation Zone. The Convection is the outermost, inner layer and contains convection cells, where heated material rises. cools, sinks back down, and
