In this novel, the first character that was mentioned what Robert Cohn. Cohn is someone the narrator, Jake, knows from school. Robert focuses on the emotional life in the world. A lot of the activities he do are based on something involving materials. Jake says “He cared nothing for boxing, in fact he dislike it, but he learned it painfully and thoroughly to counteract the feeling of inferiority and shyness he had felt on being treated as a Jew at Princeton”.
