Moreover, during the reading of the book Playbook for Progressive: 16 Qualities of the Successful Organizer by Eric Mann. The book gives certain examples of roles and qualities of activist and how they are impacted amongst society. Through the reading, I came across a certain type of activist that are known as “The Evangelist”, which Mann describes “ evangelist is to recruit and retain people in the movement by touching their deepest feelings and aspirations. (Page 11). Which means someone with this characteristic that experiences the situation of getting impacted by certain governments, policies, laws, etc. Additionally, taking every single thing in, and pursuing to make a change as a whole. This is very effective, because communities that face certain struggles, someone who passed through the same could have the same understanding. For instance, in class we watched a documentary called the Revolution won’t be televised, which took place in Venezuela around 2002. Personally, I never knew who Hugo Chavez was and the work he did in Venezuela. Upon watching the video, I witness some organizing skills from Chavez, in-spite him being the president. The reading can be very helpful on understanding social issues and improving communities by organizing around the world. Reason been, Mann mentions examples of different organizers, that in order for them to be organizers they get informed on their surroundings like policies, education, incarceration, etc. Thus, informing the community around them about this issues and improving the communities leadership development, awareness, activism, etc. Personally, after reading Mann’s book, I was able to obtain a better understanding of community organizing and their impact against
