A youth subculture is a periodic short-lived culture determined by a common character, interest or behavior. The cultures do not particularly respond to any known social institution or common social culture. Most of the time, these subcultures are developed by a small group of people in a local area and live out their lifetimes in this local area. This academic research paper will analyze the existence of a subculture that was active in Australia in the past. The paper will also analyze a current active subculture in the same country. The cultures will be compared and contrasted to draw the differences and similarities between the social and cultural conditions of both subcultures. Human beings have a need to establish and identity . This gives them a sense of belonging and a purpose for their life at the time. These are the main driving forces that lead to the formation of any subculture. An analysis of all these cultures shows an anchor towards the main influence of a subculture. Whether the anchor is local or borrowed from another culture, it drives interest and sets an agenda towards which a group of like-mined people will appreciate. The Bodgies and Widgies were anchored by the rocker way of life while the sharpies took pride in looking and feeling sharp. At present, the social media scene can be categorized into a subculture based on an analysis of the people who frequent different sites. There is a tradition of discussing dressed on the red carpet of any award show internationally, in the U.S as well as other countries. The glamour of the dress is designed specifically for an artiste to appeal to her fan base to invest in products created and sold by a certain company. The same business idea drives the endorsement business. Subcultures in the past invested in a brand because of the appeal the brand or product held within the subculture with a strong recognition. In the case of sharpies, the local investment went down to the subculture members themselves due to their creative designs that they went on to wear as a reflection of their subculture.
