We see this in many forms in today’s society, including common places such as a school environment, media, and in short stories. “Rhinoceros” shows us what our real world situations are like, and informs us how destructive we can be. Everywhere you look there is someone wishing to be another person, especially when at school. When one goes throughout the school day, they tend to look at others in their friend group and think that they would fit in better if they were more like this person than themselves. One also thinks that to “fit in” they can’t be themselves, which is taught to the community through the all of the different forms of media. Celebrities on television play large roles in teaching the community to be just like them through the selling of their products that they use to make themselves beautiful. Anyone watching will think that to be liked by others, one must hide themselves to look like a certain person. Social media also plays a key role in influencing others to be just like everyone else.
