During the renaissance era there was increase of arts like plays, poems, and other forms of literature. The church also shared in these reformations although it had showed the corruption of the church to the public. The reformation was an inspiration to some writers like Dante who wrote The Divine Comedy, or the anonymous writer of Sir Gawain and the Green knight. The author of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight uses, the Green knights color, the pentangle on Sir Gawain’s shield, the green girdle, and the three hunts to reveal the story of man. Man has desired to live ever since the beginning of time “ When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it”(Genesis 3:6).They ate of the tree of life ,but like Sir Gawain , they were succumbed to the temptation. The temptation had lead them into a life of death with one major sin that marks them.As the story goes on to the climax, The knight goes to kill him but he missed the first two swings ,and as he goes for his last swing ;he barely cuts the knight.Each swing of the axe is a comparison to the three nights ,he had stayed at the lord's manor.During each day he had been tempted three times by the lord's wife, but on the third day ,he was offered the magic item that would preserve his life ,so instead of honoring his pact with the lord he keeps the girdle secret. Sin is a down fall of man and each symbol brings the theme closer and closer to showing the downfall of
