Miyamoto Musashi fought and won his first duel at the age of thirteen, and he was the son of a low-ranking samurai. Subsequently, he left his village at the age of sixteen where he was victorious in at least sixty duels during his lifetime. To that end, Musashi is well known for his brilliance in respect to sword fighting, for instance, he would show up late to his battles in order to cause his opponents anger, thus the motive behind this tactic is that they were unable to fight with their ideal mindset, making them distracted or “impaired.” (“Code” n.p.; “Samurai” n.p.).
