The three boys fighting for power in the book “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding is a prime example of this. Piggy has close to no leadership skills at all, while Jack has experience he has gained through the years. Ralph however was just born with them and it comes natural him. None of them are perfect for the job but one of them is definitely better at it than the others. Piggy, for instance, has a lot of good characteristics about him but they aren’t enough to play the role of being leader fully. Jack has an intimidating demeanor. His leadership skills developed with the experience from being the captain of the choir. Unfortunately Jack doesn’t have his priorities straight. He thinks that hunting is more important than a signal fire to survive. On the other hand though, he does know how to give orders in a way that people will listen. For the entire book, Piggy has been ignored and not treated that well. Nobody cared about him or his ideas, but when he is dead, Ralph notices and realizes how important he was. Piggy's symbolism has become quite clear over the course of the book; he represents civilization. Golding, I believe, was trying to show how people take civilization for granted and that no one really appreciates until it's gone. Now with Piggy gone, the entire island is chaos.…

Evidence as to why Jack craves leadership is that he would ruin someones reputation in order to make his better. An example of this would be when the fire was built as a signal for help and Jack was put in charge to make sure it didn’t go out, Jack abandons the fire to go hunting instead, Which leads Jack and Ralph to argue: “‘you let the fire go out’... ‘you should’ve seen the blood!’... ‘there was a ship... we might’ve gone home’...…

In Lord of the Flies, all of the boys left stranded on the uninhabited island are fairly similar; they have good eyesight, are healthy, and have slim figures. Then there is Piggy. Piggy’s character is not the ideal one to be caught on a stranded island. William Golding’s Lord of the Flies writes about the ideas of people’s personalities and the evil within the human heart. Set within an island, a group of young boys set out to survive and be rescued; however, it is later seen how the boys end up being wild and savage when they’re left without adult supervision. Golding depicts Simon as a scapegoat whose exceptional persona on an island of chaos and anarchy makes him a target for the stranded boys’ hatred/evil. Starting early on in the novel, Simon shows a caring, generous personality, which becomes a stigma that he is “unique” in comparison to the other boys. Even though the norm for the biguns on the beach was to ignore or not help the littluns; Simon was different in that, “Simon found…
