James was the one showing discomfort at this matter. In the movie she sounded very upset hearing Sr. Aloysius accusing Fr. Flynn of doing something horrifying without basing it on facts, and Fr. Flynn is reacting to what Sr. Aloysius is doing in a way based on how he thinks she is. Sr. James is one trying to tell both of them that they are not making any sense.
According to Cole “One person’s data is another person’s noise”. Meaning to Sr. Aloysius, Fr. Flynn’s data and what he thinks and knows is nothing to her. Same goes for Fr. Flynn. What one thinks is irrelevant to the other which makes it very hard for the two to communicate which eventually causes conflict and ends up making the accusation for Sr. Aloysius more reasonable for her based on her own data.
The whole discomfort and conflict in the movie never showed who is right and who is wrong. Usually, in any story, they show us both sides and end up telling us who’s the bad guy, but here the bad guy is everyone because each person is making assumption different from the other based on what their minds and past memories and experiences tell them what is right and what is wrong, but that does not actually show what is right and what is wrong. This makes the movie more interesting to give the audience an opinion and point of view, a way to let them think more and watch less. This is a very unique and genius movie. Hopefully they make more movies like that in the
