The Struggle Between Good And Evil In Beowulf

Darkness, demonic forces, and flames of hell come to mind when you think of evil. God, angels, and Heaven come to mind when you think of good. An old epic poem kept alive by the Anglo Saxons represents all of these thoughts. It was written between the eight, and eleventh century being one of the oldest literary writings. In this epic poem that consisted of many conflicts between good and evil, we find a strong hero and loyal warrior, who battles against the demons, from hell. Beowulf a classical fictional hero who struggled against three evil monsters, endured challenges, suffered, and was eventually victorious over evil. There is a thin line between good and evil, and like oil and water it does not mix. Beowulf was like an angel sent from heaven to watch over a helpless king in his time of need, whereas the descendants of Cain and the demon dragon were merely sent from hell to make mankind miserable. In this story one man becomes an epic hero who sets out to defeat three ferocious beast only to gain glory, praise, and to save a kingdom.

Mankind could never defeat evil creatures the way Beowulf did in the epic poem. He was an epic hero that stood did not back down from evil. Each time he fought his inner feelings never defeated his mind. Beowulf was most heroic warrior of all times. He went through many trials to prove his strengths. The evil monsters wanted to destroy mankind’s most powerful warrior. Beowulf was of God, whereas the monsters were of the devil. It’s like the old saying “one bad apple spoils the bunch.” Each monster had an evil agenda to kill, or destroy. Beowulf showed good qualities, and the monsters showed evil. It all goes back to the beginning good and evil are like oil and water it does not
