It is clear that there is a large difference between Millennials and other generations present in the workplace. Millennials are programmed and pressured, they are sheltered, look for structure and instant feedback, have complete confidence in their future, and fear risk and dread failure (Howe). In general there is a difference in the way different generations grew up, the Silent Generation or the Baby Boomers had to worry and deal with many different things that the Millennials have been facing and vise versa. For example, the Baby Boomers never had to worry about being molested or bullied or school shootings, their biggest worry was getting smacked with a ruler or simply misbehaving (Wolfe). (Strengths and Weaknesses of the Millennial Workplace) Based on how much technology this generation has around them it makes sense that their greatest strength is technology. According to Bob Funk, the CEO of Express Employment Professionals, “Our research shows that younger workers excel at the obvious—technology. After all, many of them basically grew up with devices in their hands” (Strengths and Weaknesses of the Millennial Workplace). On the other hand, even though they posses this technical skillset, it is known that Generation Y has an issue with commitment. Based on the same research previously stated, their biggest weaknesses are known as lack of commitment, over-inflated sense of self, face-to-face communication, impatience, inexperience and inability to receive criticism (Strengths and Weaknesses of the Millennial Workplace). If you were to think about it, all these weaknesses could be owed to technology and how millennial are obsessed with the thought of immediate satisfaction. When it comes to the work environment it is difficult for Generation Y to follow a specific process as well as work individually, they prefer to work in a fun and group setting.
