As per the Lagemaat book, Sense Perception can be defined as the awareness of things through our main 5 senses: Visual, Auditory, Olfactory, Gustatory and Cutaneous. These 5 senses allow our brain to take in information, but whenever they are in use, they all work individually, blocking all the other senses which aren’t in use at that particular moment. An example of this is our inability of multi-tasking. When we are working on something, and at the same time, listening to someone’s conversation, even though we can listen to their conversation, we cannot grasp every single part of their conversation as effectively because our brain doesn’t have the ability to focus fully on two different things at the same time. Even though our five main senses play a big role as our source of knowledge, they also have weaknesses.

If there weren’t these senses, there would really be no difference between us and animals. It is due to these, that we can identify and distinguish, and interact with these objects during our daily lives. And not only this, but all this information, can be processed and understood by us. Even more, with such senses, we are able to gather first hand experiences and the original evidences, making us easily believe that what we are seeing is the reality, as we are experiencing it at the exact moment.
