The Strength And Abilities In The Epic Of Beowulf '

Beowulf’s strength and abilities varied within his story. Each battle, a testament to Beowulf’s skills, brought forward new challenges for him to face. The first battle occurred between Beowulf and Grendel the Demon. Grendel brought terror down upon the Danes with bloodshed. He hated the men for worshipping a God and being dubbed as the outcast. Grendel was feared by many men except Beowulf, who believed that he had nothing to fear if he left it in the hands of God. When Grendel striked it was a battle Beowulf was clearly winning in strength. He ripped Grendel’s arm off since the swords would not pierce his thick skin. Grendel fled the scene leaving his arm and a trail of blood behind. This battle seemed an easy victory for Beowulf and he was heavily rewarded and praised for his efforts, however the consequences of his actions would lead him into the lair of Grendel’s mother. …show more content…
Beowulf followed the trail of Grendel’s blood to confirm Grendel’s death. This brought Beowulf to a swampy lair where he would finish Grendel. There he would face the wrath of Grendel's mother, whose anger was fueled by the death of her son. Beowulf swam for a day down the lake being torn and scratched at by demons in order to get to Grendel’s mother. His strength was waning and it almost seemed as if Beowulf was nearing his death. Grendel’s mother matched him in strength and the battle was a 50/50 chance until Beowulf got the upper hand and pierced her throat. This would only bring Beowulf to be known as the strongest man alive and was crowned king. He was told to promise to treat his people kindly.
